(655 p.) : ill. Il se concentre principalement sur les mécanismes ayant présidé à la collecte, à l organisation et à la diffusion de l image des collections rassemblées par Louis Delaporte; Louis Delaporte (1842-1925), founder of the first museum of Khmer art in France, is a misunderstood figure in the history of archeological exploration in the Indochinese peninsula. Studying his work is nevertheless particularly important. It indeed makes it possible to enter a generally unknown aspect of the history of French colonialism in Indochina : the scientific exploration of the territories gradually submitted to the french government. It also illluminates the circumstances of the creation of the first French collection of Khmer art, which will become the nucleus of the south-eastern Asia department of the Musée Guimet. This work displays the first three decades that Louis Delaporte dedicated to Khmer art, from the first scientific travels Delaporte led in 1873-1874, to the Universal Exhibition of 1900, which Louis Delaporte regarded as the apogee of his work. It focuses mainly on the mechanisms that governed the collection, organization and publicity of the collections assembled by Louis Delaporte.Bibliographie: Bibliogr.p.22-30.
