330 _aThe Le Guay dysnasty represents one of the most illustrious bell-founders family in the French Ancien Regime. They are known from 1650 to 1742 and disappeared without a trace, in the same way they appeared. They lived in the faubourg Saint-Marcel in Paris and smelted bells especially in the Ile-de-France regio, with the exception of Louis Le Guay who settled in Abbeville in the 18th century. He gained there a strong reputation. One will find in this thesis the history of the famous Le Guay dynasty almost unknown at that time; It identifies each members of the family with their engagement into society and the inner workings of their workshop. The first generation is characterised by a stated social ambition ; in the 1680's the family was predominated by the image of the widow of Florentin Ist Le Guay, Madeleine Delaistre. Their children were the canon of Langres and three bell-founders. Florentin 2nd Le Guay, who did the tenor bell Emmanuel for Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral was the most talented. Despite the full family cohesion, the members of the dynasty scattered over in the 18th century but they kept their main home in Paris, where Florentin 3rd Le Guay took over from his father. This study concerns also the production from Le Guay's family, especially thanks to the still-existing bells. Some more specified studies bring more detailed comments. The heritage and the archives permit to look into the working conditions, the steps of the commercial and handcrafted family business.
