330 | _aThe link between the Bourbons and hunting is perfectly illustrated by Louis XVI's famous Journal, which can't be summed up to the too much well-known quotation "Rien" of the 14th July 1789, reflects the time that the king spent hunting. From his ancestors, Louis XVI inherited an entire world devoted to his plaisirs, which knew various and profound inflexions during his reign. Composed by numerous services, by an abundant and diversified staff, by hounds and horses, by building and forests, this world, which even shaped the hunting rights of the Ancien Régime, has only been parlty studied, in separated works, without an overall vision of it. This present work tends precisely to represent on the one hand the universe of the royal hunts in its global nature and all its components, on the other its evolution during Louis XVI's reign, especially when it is confronted with the French Revolution. Far from being unchanging, this world which concerned and the Court, and the Crown lands, wa subject to the king's taste, to financial pressures at the end of the Ancien Régime and to many revolutionary events. The fate of the royal hunts and of their world was both linked to the king's decisions and to the legislative and institutional disruptions, and furthermore to the popular troubles. This work seeks to understand what the different elements of this world became, when we know that it was built in more than one century, for the king and by the king, then thrown down in a few years, yet without disappearing entirely : some signs of the royal hunts, in spite of their suppression, still remain nowadays.
